Here are the instructions for how to make a Facebook Fan Page.

Step 1. Visit http://facebook.com

Step 2. Ignore the signup form and click on the “Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business” link below the form.

Step 3. Choose the type of page that you would like to create. I chose Artist, Band or Public Figure Category = Public Figure, Name = Christopher Reid (You will choose your own settings here)

Step 4. Tick ‘I agree to Facebook Pages Terms’ and click ‘Get Started’ button.

Step 5. If you get a warning saying your page name is not available simply change the Category in the drop down. Resubmit and it should work just fine

Step 6. Sign in using your personal account. You need to link your new page to your personal FaceBook account. Although you may have as many Facebook fan pages as you like, Facebook does not allow you to have more than 1 personal Facebook account so be careful if you decide to create a new personal account.

Step 7. Design your new page. There are lots of things you can do to setup your Facebook Fan Page including adding logos, text, tabs etc. You have a whole 180px x 540px in the upper left to add a logo.

Step 8. Get at least 25 Facebook ‘Likes’ as fast as possible by sharing your Facebook Fan Page URL (e.g http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christopher-Reid/215281281014) with your personal Facebook friends and any people on your email marketing lists. Simply ask them to ‘Like’ your new page.

Step 9. Create a vanity URL. Visit http://facebook.com/username/ and choose your new page from the drop-down. WARNING! Be careful of the username you choose as you cannot change it. Either choose a brand focus username or go for an SEO username by choosing a highly searched keyword phrase.

Step 10. If you do not yet have 25 Facebook likes (25 people who like your fan page) you will get a warning saying your username is not eligible yet. Once you have at least 25 fans on your fan page you can revisit http://facebook.com/username/ and choose your new page from the drop-down. It will now be eligible so you can then enter your desired username.

Step 11. Once entered and approved you will be taken to your new Facebook Fan Page via your new vanity URL e.g. http://facebook.com/Christopher-Reid (might take a few mins to resolve)

And you are all done!
